Camping in the Rockies

For the last few years, we have gone to Rocky Mountain National Park over Labor Day near Estes Park. This year we camped over for two nights. The nights were a little chilly, 38 degrees. We sleep in tents so I guess we are officially camping, although we do a bit of cheating also. You see, the park is just outside of Estes Park (a cute little town) so we tend to do most of our eating there. On Friday night, I made tin foil dinners and then we roasted s'mores except we replaced the graham crackers and chocolate with "grasshopper" cookies - mint chocolate coated cookies. On Saturday afternoon, we made sandwiches in camp. On Sunday morning, eggs and sausage were cooked. The rest of our meals were eaten in town. And that is what I mean by cheating.

Saturday we drove (also cheating) through the mountains to check out some beautiful waterfalls and went for a short "hike" before dinner. On Sunday after packing up camp, we walked around Lily Lake. Crew was DYING to hold the baby ducks he saw. Mia collected "food" for the squirrels.

The cheating that I will complain the least about is the flushing toilets and clean faucets just a short jaunt from our tents. See you next year, Rocky Mountain National Park!
